Meet Meagan Easterling

Certified Bourbon Professional and Certified whisk(e)y professional, Bartender

A young woman with long blonde hair, sitting inside a wine barrel, holding a certificate from 'The Council of Whiskey Masters' and smiling. She is in a dimly lit room with shelves of glassware behind her.

Congratulations to our very own, Meagan Easterling, for completing her Whiskey Professional Certification!

Meagan has studied extensively and perfected her knowledge on both Scotch and Bourbon in detail, as well as other important global whisk(e)ys from North America, Ireland, Japan, and emerging regions.

We asked her a few questions about her love for the spirit and her experience throughout the course:

Q: What is something interesting you learned about whiskey throughout this certification that you did not know before?

A: Laphroaig uses first-fill bourbon barrels from Maker's Mark.

Q: What is your favorite whiskey, and why?

A: Bookers. Each batch tastes so different, yet it's consistently delicious and bold.

Q: Do you personally make a specialty whiskey cocktail that guests should try on their next visit?

A twist on the classic cocktail: "Smoked Revolver"- Bulleit Rye, orange bitters, a little Kahlua in a smoked rocks glass. I think it is the perfect nightcap!

Q: What whiskey cocktail would you recommend to whiskey lovers that visit Rack House?

A: A smoked old-fashioned. I personally like a rye with black walnut bitters and brown sugar simple syrup.

Congratulations, Meagan! We're excited to see which certification you take on next. Stop by and celebrate with her this week; you can find her behind our bar!

Meet TOBY DASTUGUE

Certified Bourbon Professional, Bartender

A man with long hair and a beard, dressed in black, sitting on a blue couch and smiling, holding a certificate from the Council of Whiskey Masters.

We want to give a BIG round of applause to our bartender Toby Dastugue for passing his Certified Bourbon Professional Test!

He has studied extensively about the history of bourbon, whiskey regions of America, modern bourbon production and much more!

We asked him a few questions to better understand his commitment to the spirit and his craft as a bartender…

Q: What peaked your interest in bourbon?

A: “ The Rack House, I started learning about bourbon the day I was hired. I became thirsty for information and bourbon all within the same day.”

Q: This is a loaded question, but what’s your favorite bourbon or type of bourbon?

A: “My favorite bourbon is probably Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I tend to gravitate to barrel/cask strength products when I’m looking for something different.”

Q: If you could visit any distillery, which one would it be?

A: “The Woodford Distillery is a must visit for me, but I also want to visit Buffalo Trace as well. I enjoy products and history of both, and I would love to learn directly from their staff.

Congratulations on your certification - we are excited to have you and your knowledge at the Rack House! You can usually find Toby behind our upstairs bars. Feel free to chat with him, and talk bourbon - any time.
